Sightseeing, Monuments

Slovenia is a country that has many monuments to visit and enjoy, museums, and exhibits that are distributed among its main cities, especially in Ljubljana, which has more sightseeing than in any other city in Slovenia. You'll find a monument, museum, or exhibit almost on every street.

Our tour of monuments in Slovenia begins with Ljubljana, the capital, an incredible city of architecture that is similar to countries like Austira, whose main cities like Vienna, Graz, or Salzburg, are quite similar to Ljubljana. Its must-see monuments are: the Ljubljana Castle, a medieval castle tha tdates back to the 12th century, that is on top of a hill in the centre of the city. The castle has been destroyed and restored on various occasions. Another important monument in Ljubljana is the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas. It is a catholic cathedral dating back to the 11th century. It also has been restored several times.

Don't forget to see the Franciscan Church of Announcement from the 17th century, the Dragon Bridge, the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, the Roman Ruins of Emona, the Ursulinas Church, shoe shiner bridge, its fountains and plazas.

The second most important city in Slovenia is Maribor, which also has plenty of attractions. This city dates to the 12th century, and is a historic city. Here you can visit the cathedral that was constructed at the same time as the village was in the 12th century, though its most visited monument is the castle, Maribor Castle, built in the 15th century. Other close by castles to Maribor are in Ptuj, and in Slovenska Bistrica, also emblematic places to visit and explore.

In the locality of Dravograd, there are also interesting sightseeing to visit, especially the Roman Church of San Vito, dating back to the 12th century. There is also the ruins of the Stari Grad Castle.

The Velenje Castle in Bled, with its lake, castles, and churches, the Kranj Castle, or the San Sebastian churches, Rozenvenzka, or Saint Kancinjan Church, from the 15th century, are other places to see in the city of Kranj, in the heart of the Julian Alps.

Very close to Kranj is the city of Škofja Loka, where you'll see many monuments to visit. See its historic town centre, where you'll see the Episcopal Castle, from the 13th century. Others are the Capuchinos Bridge, from the 14th century, or the Mary Immaculate Church, also from the 14th century.

You must see the Postojna Cave, the Gewerkenegg Castle in Idrija, the Kozlov Rob Castle in Tolmin, which is one of the oldest and most visited in the country, built in the 10th century. See the monuments on the coast such as the Venetian House of Piran, the Palace of Magistrates in Koper, or the historic city centre of Izola.
