Slovenia is a young country proceeding from the Ex-Yugoslavia. It is a country in the Balkans, which has a small outlet to the Adriatic Sea. Close to Trieste in Italy, it is surrounded by countries like Hungary, Italy, Croatia, and Austria. The population rounds out at about 2 million inhabitants, and less than 10% live in its capital Ljubljana.
Slovenia became independent from Yugoslavia in 1991, a year in which the Balkan conflict began. It is a country that has a spread out population all over the world, especially in Italy, Austria, and the United States. In 2004, Slovenia entered into the European Union.
From all of the countries that conform the ex Yugoslavia, Slovenia is perhaps one of the most interesting to visit, next to Croatia, fundamentally because it is a country that did not enter into war. Its process of separation lasted a little more than a week. The country has many attractions such as the Adriatic Sea, coastal localities that are very tourisy like Izola, Piran, or Koper. They are places where you'll find beaches surrounded by apartments, hotels, and other accommodation places. In the interior of the country you can also find holiday rentals that are rural in nature, especially in the capital, Ljubljana, or cities like Maribor.
There are plenty of activities, sightseeing and things to do for your vacation in Slovenia. Visit castles, churches or cathedrals in century-old cities, practice snowboard in the main winter ski stations in the Julian Alps, enjoy magical places such as Bled... Slovenia is a wonderful place to spend your holiday!
